VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) -- A Bangor man will face a long list of charges after allegedly causing a crash in a stolen vehicle, leaving behind a car full of injured passengers, stealing another car and fleeing the scene. He may be arraigned Tuesday.
Van Buren County Deputies say at about 6:00 Sunday night, 32-year-old Adam Mathews ran a stop-sign at County Road 687 and 8th Avenue while drunk, and slammed into a Chevy Tahoe. Deputies say the car was stolen, he had a suspended license, and he was already wanted on bench warrants.
Despite his own injuries, they say he stole another Toyota nearby and fled.
Two of his passengers had to be airlifted out to hospitals, and two others taken out by ground ambulance. Their conditions have not been released but they all apparently survived.
Police staked out a place in Coloma where they believed Mathews might be headed and arrested him when he appeared. He also required hospitalization.
