PORTAGE (WTVB) - The trial is over for former Portage 5th grade teacher Leslie Buscher, who is charged with drunk driving in July of last year. Now she is just waiting for the judge to render a verdict. Buscher was found slumped over the wheel of her SUV by Van Buren County deputies, her two young children strapped into their car seats in the back seat, a half empty cup of vodka in her cup-holder. She registered a blood alcohol count that was allegedly over four times the legal limit.
At one point the charges were dismissed on a technicality because she was parked on private property when police found her. That argument was later reversed on appeal and the charges reinstated.
The 37-year-old had been reassigned to Portage Northern High School but resigned her position last month.
