STURGIS , MI (WTVB) - A 14-year old Sturgis boy joyriding early today through the downtown area with his ten year old brother along for the ride was stopped before anyone was injured. Police say they spotted a mini-van speeding around 3:30 a.m., all over the road with no headlights on. The patrol car attempted to have the van pulled over but it fled west out of town to Stubey Road where it finally came to a stop.
The 14-year old behind the wheel made up an elaborate story concerning his sick gradmother and the need for medical treatment. When the youngster’s mother arrived on scene, the truth came out. He apparently decided to take out the van to go to a 24-hour store in Sturgis to shop. Instead, the young teen made a stop at the police department and then was turned over to mom for her brand of treatment whatever that might be.
