TIt’s game two of the new season for the Tigers and Twins this afternoon at Target Field as Detroit looks to begin 2-and-0 after their 4-to-2 win Monday at Minnesota. Anibal Sanchez goes to the mound for the Tigers while Kevin Correia pitches for the Twins with a 4:10 start time when the weather should be at least 15 degrees warmer than the opener with the forecast for sunshine and a high around 50. Detroit wraps up the 3-game series tomorrow afternoon and then returns to Comerica Park for the home opener Friday afternoon against the Yankees. The White Sox and Cubs were both idle Tuesday when there were five games played in the Majors, including a near perfect no-no last night indoors at Minute Maid Park in Houston
Yu Darvish was perfect through 8 2/3 innings for Texas as the Rangers defeated the Houston Astros 7-to-0. Darvish seemed unstoppable and was one out away from perfection when the number nine hitter in the lineup, Marwin Gonzalez hit a ground ball between his legs and into center field for a single. Darvish was then replaced by Michael Kirkman, and despite not getting to finish out the game, recorded an impressive 14 strikeouts. He was the first pitcher to lose a perfect game with 2 outs in the ninth since former Tiger Armando Galarraga on June 2nd, 2010. Of course, Galarraga was robbed of history because of the blown call at first base by umpire Jim Joyce, who later admitted he missed the play.
