LAWTON, MI (WKZO) -- State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker may have a primary challenger if she runs for reelection in the newly configured 26th Senate District next year. Under redistricting Kalamazoo County becomes its own district next year, and Schuitmaker, who lives in Lawton, reportedly doesn’t plan to move.
MIRS News reports that State House Rep. Bob Genetski of Saugatuck has just filed the paperwork to organize a candidate committee for the 26th. He is in his third and last term in the state house.
He says he isn’t committed to run, but is thinking about it. While Shuitmaker is well known in Van Buren County, Genetski is much better known in Allegan County.
Genetski’s drunk driving arrest last year could become an issue if the race heats up and gets personal.
