The Michigan Wolverines tonight shoot for the school’s second ever NCAA Men’s basketball title when they take on the Louisville Cardinals in the Final Four championship game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Louisville is listed as a four point favorite. Both teams had to survive close calls Saturday in the semi-finals with the Wolverines holding off Syracuse while the overall top seeded Cardinals rallied to beat Wichita State.
The Wolverines won their only other title in 1989 behind tournament MVP Glen Rice. Michigan sophomore point guard Trey Burke yesterday was named the winner of the 2013 Naismith Trophy, given to the college basketball player of the year. Burke is the first Michigan player to win the award. It will be a late evening for basketball fans with tonight’s game not scheduled to tip-off until 9:23 p.m.
The Louisville women’s team will also be playing for an NCAA championship. Last night, they beat California in the semifinals and will face Connecticut Tuesday night in New Orleans after U-Conn cruised past Notre Dame in the other semifinal contest.
