KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- There is a cheaper solution to the Allied Paper dump clean-up but so far the EPA is ignoring the counter-proposal.
Mick Warner works for a landfill in Wayne that accepts the kind of PCB contaminated soil that sits in the Allied Paper Landfill in Kalamazoo and says he will remove it all for a third of the price the EPA is quoting, and do it by EPA standards.
Warner says they have already accepted PCB’s under contract with the EPA from the clean-up down river in Plainwell.
City officials say they have gotten no response from the EPA on that bid and no explanation why the Agency estimates are so many times higher.
The EPA is just about to propose that the contaminants all be left at the site off Alcott road and capped.
