UNDATED (WTVB) - Today is the tax filing deadline and just as last year, tax procrastinators can’t count on the post office to stay open late for them this year. Between budget cuts at the postal service and the increase in the number of people who electronically file their taxes, the Post Office no longer extends their hours for late filers. It had almost become a tradition and annual event for cars to line up as the midnight hour approached and they would hand over their returns for a timely delivery but those days are over.
If you use a big blue mail box, make sure that it’s going to be emptied yet today before you drop your returns in it. The goal is to get that all important April 15th cancellation, or you could face penalties.
