ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP (WTVB) - The Branch County Sheriff’s Department is trying to figure out who was driving a car that crashed early Sunday and rolled over in a field in Algansee Township, leaving three people injured. Deputies believe alcohol was involved in the accident that happened around 2:30 a.m. on East Central Road, west of South Fremont Road.
The 3 passengers in the car said the driver ran to the road to flag down a passing vehicle but didn’t return. One of the men in the wrecked car told 9-1-1 Central Dispatch there was one serious injury. 22-year old Eric Donley of Elkhart was flown from the scene by Air Care helicopter to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo and later discharged. The other two passengers, 24-year old Codie Howells of Coldwater and 22-year old Cameron Kosmerick of Galesburg, were checked out at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
The Sheriff’s Department said a K-9 tracked about three-quarters of a mile away from the scene to a residence where it appears a vehicle had driven away. The accident remains under investigation. The Quincy Fire Department helped at the crash site setting up a landing zone for Air Care.
