LANSING, MI (WTVB) --Michigan’s unemployment rate and the actual number of unemployed has dropped to its lowest level since 2008.The rate fell to 8.5% in March, down 3/10’s of a percent from February, and half a percent from March of last year.

The State Bureau of Labor Market information says the number of payroll jobs has climbed to the level it was in late 2008. 17,000 gained jobs and 14,000 lost jobs in March, for a net increase of 3,000.

The number of “unemployed” fell below 400,000 for the first time since the summer of 2008, but that has more to do with the number of long term jobless losing unemployment insurance than folks finding work.
