Detroit’s drive to make the playoffs went the wrong direction last night with a 3-to-2 loss at Calgary. The defeat dropped the Red Wings to ninth in the Western Conference, one place removed from a spot in the post season and two points behind Columbus.
Detroit has five games left to play, one more than Columbus. Gustav Nyquist and Johan Franzen scored for the Red Wings while Jimmy Howard allowed three goals on just 17 shots in the defeat, Detroit’s fourth in their last five games. The Red Wings will finish up their current 4-game road trip Saturday night at Calgary.
