LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Governor Snyder is kicking off an education summit today in Lansing and doing it under a cloud after the Detroit News broke a story this weekend that a special committee of businessmen have been working on a plan to dramatically cut the cost of education by replacing teachers with technology, cutting the cost per student from $7,000 to $5,000.

The so-called “Skunk Works” project is being formulated by a group of corporate and political operatives, because most of the professional educators on the panel have left the group.

Educational groups and Democrats have pounced on the report, calling it an idea from a bunch of amateurs appointed to generate an education on the cheap for Michigan students.
