DETROIT, MI (WKZO) - It might be the stuff of a Hollywood movie...but Tiger fans were just hoping for the new, improved version of Jose Valverde Wednesday night at Comerica. Valverde, in his first appearance with the club since signing earlier this month, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, gaining his first save, as Detroit came back to defeat Kansas City, 7-5. The Tigers trailed the Royals 4-1 in the third, got back within one with two runs in that inning...then took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning. Omar Infante went 3 for 4, and Victor Martinez showed signs of snapping out of his slump, going 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Max Scherzer got the win, his second of the season, and the Tigers are now in second place in the Central, a half game behind the Royals. The teams finish up the short series Thursday afternoon, with broadcast time on 590 WKZO set for 12:40p.
