The Red Wings clipped the Kings 3-to-1 last night at Joe Louis Arena, moving Detroit back into eighth place in the West in the fight for the final playoff berth in the conference.
The victory put the Red Wings one point ahead of idle Columbus with two games left for each team including tonight’s contest for Detroit at home against Nashville.
Jordin Tootoo scored the go-ahead goal for the Red Wings last night 5:42 into the third period. Johan Franzen added a power play tally later in the third, while Pavel Datsyuk lit the lamp in the second period. Jimmy Howard kicked aside 23 of the 24 shots he faced in the win.
The Red Wings have played in every NHL postseason since 1991, the longest active run in North American professional sports.
