The Tigers rallied to beat the Royals 7-to-5 last night at Comerica Parkas the victory featured a perfect ninth for Jose Valverde, Detroit’s former closer who was recently signed and just returned yesterday to be on the Tiger’s roster and earned the save to help them end their four game losing streak.
Detroit wraps up the 2-game set with Kansas City this afternoon with Justin Verlander starting against the Royals. Last night, Jhonny Peralta and Victor Martinez drove in two runs each for the Tigers, who trailed 4-to-1 before scoring twice in the bottom of the third and then took control with four more runs in the fourth.
Omar Infante added 3 hits including a triple while starter Max Scherzer improved to 2-and-0 on the season. Scherzer allowed all five runs on seven hits in five innings and struck out six. Detroit is now 10-and-9 and a half game behind the Central Division leading Royals.
The last place White Sox stopped their 4-game skid yesterday afternoon with a 3-to-2 win over the Indians in Chicago while the Cubs were blanked 1-to-0 at Cincinnati.
