Two days after NASCAR issued severe penalties to his team for an illegal engine used in last weekend's race at Kansas Speedway, Matt Kenseth last night won the pole for the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
Kenseth broke a nine-year track qualifying record at Richmond set by Brian Vickers in May 2004. Vickers qualified on the outside pole with lap time right behind Kenseth. Jeff Gordon qualified third while Kasey Kahne took the fourth spot. Live coverage of tonight’s race from Richmond on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 begins at 6:30.
