COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - With a resolution from the Michigan Legislature, a letter read into the Congressional Record, preservation and arts dignitaries from around the state, and visitors from as far away as California and Arizona, the Tibbits Opera House Saturday night celebrated the completion of its new facade, as well as the premiere of a documentary about the project. The doumentary, produced by MIke Mort and Equity Studios of Sturgis, is called "Old Buildings, The Restoration and Preservation of Tibbits Opera House".  Mort is hoping for national distribution of the hour long documentary.

State Representatve Ken Kurtz and Senator Bruce Caswell presented a resolution that was also signed by Governor Rick Snyder, Congressman Tim Walberg brought a framed letter he read into the Congressional Record in Washington, and a letter of support from actor Jeff Daniels was also read. Officials from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, MIchigan Historic Preservation Network, and Michigan Council for the Arts were also on hand.  Larry Carrico, who served as Executive Director at the Tibbits for 17 years during the 1960's, 70's and early 80's also attended the event, as did former Senator Bill Ballenger, the publisher of "Inside Michigan Politics". Ballenger was in the cast of "Hello Dolly" during the 1980 Summer Theatre season.

Throughout its entire restotation process over the past 12 years, Tibbits supporters have been able to raise close to $3.4 million. The Opera House opened in 1882, and is the 2nd oldest operating theatre in Michigan.
