WATERVILIET (WKZO) -- There is natural gas, which comes from decayed plant and animal material buried millions of years ago.
Then there is landfill-gas which comes from trash buried in the more recent past.
Today officials in Waterviliet plan to officially dedicate the Orchard Hill Generation Station, which will collect the methane gas being produced by a small mountain of rotting trash buried in a landfill.
The gas when burned will generate enough electricity to run 2,000 homes on a daily basis.
Rep. Fred Upton, who chairs the House Energy Committee, will be there.
