Royals complete doubleheader sweep with 3-0 shutout over Tigers


Detroit, MI (WKZO) – The Tigers offense continued to struggle in the night half of the doubleheader as they were shutout 3-0 by Kansas City.

James Shields made the start of KC and  allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings. He struck out only one and walked four while evening his record to 8-8.

Eric Hosmer homered for the second time during the doubleheader to put the Royals in the lead 2-0 during the third inning. Jamey Carroll hit a sac fly for the Royals third run in the seventh.

After being called up from Triple-A Toledo Jose Alvarez went 5 2/3 innings and struck out five and walked three for Detroit.

Tigers and Royals continue their five game series on Saturday night with Doug Fister (10-6, 3.60 ERA) going against Wade Davis (6-9, 5.29). First pitch is set for 7:08.
