KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Township Police report one of their officers suffered minor injuries when one of their patrol cars was struck nearly head on by a wayward driver in the 21-hundred block of East Main late Saturday night.
Just before 11 p.m. a 61-year-old Township resident, who may have been drinking and had been seen swerving prior to the crash, was headed westbound when he went out of control, bounced off the curb and rolled back across the centerline, striking the eastbound Crown Victoria Police Interceptor in its left front bumper.
Township Officer Michael Vasilovski was protected by his seatbelt and an airbag and was treated and released at Bronson Hospital with minor abrasions.
The other driver had to be pried out of the wreckage of his vehicle, and remains hospitalized at Borgess Medical Center, but is expected to recover.
East Main was closed for several hours to while the collision was investigated.
Township Chief Tim Bourgeois has handed the investigation of the crash over to Kalamazoo Public Safety.
The name of the other driver is being withheld pending possible charges.
