Gas prices jump about a quarter across Southwest Michigan

Gas prices going up as summer begins to wind down

UNDATED (WNWN) - Gas prices have jumped between 20 and 25-cents a gallon at many stations across Southwest Michigan as we approach Labor Day and the end of summer season. The reason is anyone’s guess but it may have something to do with a rise in crude oil prices to over $107 dollars a barrel because the tension in Egypt and the threat that oil shipments through the Suez Canal could be interrupted.

There are also reports from the Energy Information Agency of a 1.4-million barrel drop in crude oil inventories, and a 4-million barrel decline in gasoline inventories in the U.S. Many area stations are charging around $3.69 a gallon today.
