New York, NY (WKZO) – Backed by a pair of two-run homers and a seven run ninth the Tigers completed the three game sweep over the New York Mets with Sunday afternoon’s -3 victory.
Miguel Cabrera got the scoring going with his 42nd home run in the first inning with Austin Jackson on base. Andy Dirks then later hit his eighth of the year in the sixth inning to put the Tigers in the lead for good 4-3.
Rick Porcello made the start and improved his record to 10-7 on the year after he allowed just three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings. The big hit Porcello allowed was a two run home to Travis d’Arnaud in the fourth inning, his first career long ball, to put the Mets in the lead 3-2.
The Tigers bats pounded on seven runs in the ninth as they batted around and had seven hits to secure the victory.
The Tigers return to Comerica Park on Monday to start a three game series with the Oakland A’s. Anibal Sanchez will make the start for Detroit against A.J. Griffin. Coverage beings on 590 WKZO at 6:40 with first pitch scheduled for 7:08.
