COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - It was more than double the turnout Branch County United Way hoped for Saturday when more than 700 people took part in launching the 2013 campaign drive with the agency’s inaugural Living Color Living United 5-K run event at Heritage Park in Coldwater. The activity succeeded in helping the pledge total to kickstart this year’s fundraiser hit approximately $10,000.
Branch County United Way executive director Judy Krzeminski said the agency was committed to move in a new direction away from the traditional “Donuts on the Drag” as the opening venture and focus instead on getting families out together to get healthy. She said it’s indicative of the changes the United Way is making, starting to work on solutions to problems rather than just band-aids for problems. Saturday saw a number of participants turn out who had never before run a 5-K and they were able to accomplish it within a family setting.
