NEW YORK, NY (WTVB) - The Tigers yesterday made it a 3-game sweep over the Mets in New York with an 11-to-3 win at Citi Field. The victory behind an 18-hit attack put Central Division leading Detroit a season high 24 games over .500 and they stay six games ahead of the second place Indians. The Tigers tonight begin a seven game home stand, starting with a 4-game series against the Oakland A’s followed by a 3-game set against Cleveland. Miguel Cabrera and Andy Dirks both clubbed two-run homers Sunday against the Mets. Cabrera’s majestic shot, which traveled an estimated 429 feet into the second deck, was his 42nd of the season while he went 3-for-4 with a walk, raising his batting average to a major league best .360. An RBI-single by Victor Martinez ignited a seven-run ninth inning for Detroit.
Rick Porcello allowed three runs over seven innings to earn the win. Porello improved to 10-and-7 and is 6-and-1 over his last nine outings. Anibal Sanchez starts tonight for the Tigers against the A’s.
