Conservative activists target Lieutenant Governor Calley

LANSING (WKZO) -- More conservative activists in Michigan's Republican Party say they will seek to have Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley replaced on the 2014 Republican gubernatorial ticket.

MIRS News reports that founder of Hartland-based RetakeOurGove Wes Nakagiri says he wants to bring a more conservative voice to the Snyder administration and has submitted a Statement of Organization to the Bureau of Elections.  Typically, a gubernatorial candidate is allowed to choose their own running mate, but Michigan's Republican Party rules allow for a lieutenant governor nominee to be picked at the party's convention of an election year.

Nakagiri may seek the nod himself, but the convention where he could be selected won't be held until late August or early September of 2014.  Nakagiri cited Calley's stated support of expanding Medicaid in Michigan as just one of the key issues he believes puts the Lieutenant Governor at odds with the state's Republican voting base.
