COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County Sheriff John Pollack is publicly thanking the emergency response team from the Lakeland Correctional Facility for the ERT’s quick and effective response in helping to contain an unruly inmate in maximum security at the County jail earlier this month during an incident that Pollack said could have been much worse without the help from state prison officers. Pollack recognized Lakeland Warden Bonita Hoffner, recalling that within just a few minutes of the time the state was notified, the prisoner was under control with no jail guards or Corrections staff getting hurt and the inmate suffering only a small cut on his foot. There was some damage to the window of the prisoner’s cell. Pollack offered up his comments at yesterday’s meeting of the County Board of Commissioners.
Also at Tuesday’s Board meeting, a State grant for housing rehab and fixup projects in Branch County totaling $275,000 is in the pipeline after County Commissioners on Tuesday passed a resolution that allows the county to receive the MSHDA funding. Community Action says eligible property owners should be able to begin the application process in about 60 days.
