UNDATED (WKZO) -- Area police agencies are not only beefing up their highway patrols this final holiday season of the summer, but sending patrols out onto lakes and rivers to make sure that boaters are staying sober and staying safe.
Rachael Johnson with the National Safe Boating Council says a little alcohol goes a long way when you are on the water.
She says the sun and heat and the rocking of the boat can increase the effect of the alcohol.
That’s not something you want to have to cope with while steering an expensive piece of hardware, fueled by gasoline over the waves or through a narrow channel or around other boats. Especially if there are others on board.
