LANSING, MI (WTVB) - December 4th is National Cookie Day. Enjoy! But not too much. Do you feel like you’re contributing to Michigan’s ranking as the tenth fattest state in the U.S.? Well, at least it’s down from the year, before when Michigan was fifth.
Locally, the tri county area of Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph has an obesity rating of 26%. The number of Calhoun County residents who are obese is 38%, the same for Jackson and Lenawee. Sanilac County is at the top of the scales at 42%. On the slim side of things, Ottawa and Livingston are at 23%. The statewide average is 31.1%. That’s the obesity rate. Just plain overweight, around 35%. Put the two together, Michigan needs to shed the pounds because that adds up to two thirds of folks in the state weighing in with a number that’s higher than it should be.
