COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The Coldwater City Council last night awarded a Grand Rapids firm the construction contract for the Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic and Recreation Center with work on the Aquatic Center to begin next Monday with the entire project slated to be finished sometime in the fall. Shane Napper with Rockford Construction briefed the council on the timeline for the $16 million project.
Construction on expanding the Independence Recreation Center at Heritage Park is scheduled to start late in the spring since it should take about half as long as the aquatic center to complete. Napper said the Coldwater area economy will also see an extra boost from the project since Rockford had excellent feedback from the local marketplace when they bid the project out and had good conversations with the local subcontractors.
The construction portion of the project is worth an estimated $13.8 million. Most of the costs for the facilities will be met by the gift announced early this year by the Brown family for which the centers are named.
