KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The Kalamazoo City Commission has approved the reconstruction of the intersection of Oakland Drive and Parkview Avenue after making some minor adjustments to the plan to make it a little more "bike friendly".
Bike enthusiasts complained two weeks ago that the plan was drawn up with no accommodations for bikes. More bike riders came out last night.
City staff says its too late to make alterations to the plan without jeopardizing nearly a million dollars in federal money.
City staff offered to include a “Sharrow” in the final configuration, which would not change the plan physically, but would require one lane to be painted in a way that would allow bikes and cars to share the lane.
