DETROIT (WKZO) -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is leaving the door open for state support of a fund that could save the Detroit Institute of Arts from creditors seeking cash from the city.

The governor told reporters that it would be a "challenge" to get legislators to support a measure if the money was being used to pay debts. He said he would not object to contributing to a fund of private foundations to shield the artwork at the DIA.

A proposed 500-million dollar fund would also help the city pay pensioners an estimated 3.5-billion dollars they are owed.
