UNDATED (WKZO) -- The winter solstice officially arrives this weekend. It already seems like it’s been winter for a very long time.
Some people have been into the idea of all this snow, mainly skiers, ski hill operators, and private plow truck drivers who get paid by the job.
For most of the rest of us it’s been an inconvenience...or worse. Imagine just two or three months more of this to go.
Just how much colder and snowier has this December been?
A lot according to Dr. Robert Ruhf, a meteorologist senior research associate in the WMU Mallinson Institute for Science Education.
He says snowfall varies from area to area, heavier near the lake and all above average. The temperatures in Kalamazoo have been six degrees lower than normal and the snow a lot deeper, depending on the location.
But Dr. Ruhf says the early arrival of winter weather could also mean an early end to the snow if Lake Michigan freezes over and disrupts the lake effect. He says we could see an end to the snow in February.
The solstice is finally upon us but someone forgot to tell old man winter and many may feel has already begun to overstay his welcome.
