CASS COUNTY (WKZO) -- The official holiday travel weekend was just a few hours old when southwest Michigan recorded its first traffic fatality.
Cass County Deputies say they are trying to determine why 52-year-old David Wenger of Goshen, Indiana lost control of his vehicle as he headed westbound on Calvin Hill St. at approximately 8:30 Saturday morning.
There is an obvious answer. They say it was quite foggy at the time in Jefferson Township. Wenger went off the road on a curve and struck a tree, and then rolled into a ravine. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
They say he was wearing seatbelts. They are running tests to determine if alcohol was a factor.
