Job cuts could be coming to Selfridge Air National Guard Base

HARRISON (WKZO) -- Selfridge Air National Guard Base could see job cuts on the way.

The base nearly lost around seven-hundred jobs in 2013 under a budget proposal from the Obama administration that would have slashed nine-thousand Air Force jobs in efforts to cut defense spending. Now, the Detroit News reports that the Air Force plans to move the A-10 Thunderbolt "Warthog" attack fighter after the end of the 2014 budget year.

Deployment of the A-10s at the Harrison Township base will continue under the 2014 budget, but it is not expected that they will remain at the base beyond the current spending plan. Some members of Michigan's Congressional delegation have already sent a letter to the Defense Department asking for reconsideration of the move, as ending the deployment of the A-10s from the base could impact hundreds of jobs.
