BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- Battle Creek officials are afraid that a building that caught fire and burned on Michigan Avenue may collapse, so they have sealed off the area and closed a business nearby until they can assess the integrity of the former Sports Page Bar.
It was remodeled and reopened as the On Deck Bar this fall.
The fire was first reported about 4:30 Monday morning but Fire Inspector Quincy Jones suspects the fire may have burned for sometime before then.
Fire crews barely escaped the building before the roof caved in.
Jones says the extent of the damage inside may make finding the cause difficult.
The century old building has been condemned, damaged by water and weighted down in frozen water, and will probably have to be demolished.
They are estimating the damage at 950-thousand dollars.
In the meantime surrounding streets and The Taste of India will remain closed as a precaution.
