FORT CUSTER, MI (WKZO) -- Battle Creek officials are waiting anxiously to hear from the Department of Defense whether the Air National Guard Base is going to get a flying mission. Without it, they are going to lose a lot of jobs. They have been promised several cargo plane missions that fell thru as the military has been realigning its priorities, replacing may manned flight missions with drones. They hope to get 8 of the 32 C-130 being assigned to bases.
Air Force Secretary Michael Donley was supposed to make the decision by the end of January, and today is February 1st. The C-130 Hercules is a 4-turboprop Cargo Plane that has been around since 1956.
