MARSHALL (WKZO) -- Enbridge Energy has received final state approval to replace the 6B pipeline that burst near Marshall in 2010.  The firm plans to have a bigger and better pipeline that won’t be subject to the pressure and pumping restrictions currently imposed on the old line.

The Michigan Public Services Commission issued the order this week.  The 160-mile long pipeline will be built along the same route, next to the current pipeline, which will continue to operate while the new line is being installed.

Enbridge Energy has had to promise that the new line will be stronger and have better controls than the old line.  It will travel up from Indiana through Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun Counties, heading east to the refineries in Sarnia.
