Portage parents met with Portage School officials last night to discuss plans to allow electronic billboards on school property, and were critical for approving it without more citizen input.
The board approved a contract in September to rent space at three schools for four Digital billboards that would overlook either I-94 or U.S. 131. In exchange, Adams Advertising would pay rent and offer free advertising space, and agree to restrictions on which businesses could advertise.
But citizens say it will glare into their homes, and it is an inappropriate addition to a school playground or for young eyes to see.
Interim Supt Rob Olsen agreed to take their concerns to the school board, but it’s not clear if Adams, who had a representative at last night’s meeting, will let them back out of the contract
