Lake water levels continue at record lows

DETROIT (WKZO) - For the second month in a row, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron have set new record low water levels.   All the snow and rain we have gotten in the last two weeks probably won’t reverse that trend according to the Army Corp of Engineers, because we are still 16 to 20 inches below a normal winter at this point.  They are predicting we may set a few more monthly records, depending on how much it snows for the rest of this winter, and then rains this spring.

Some also blame dredging near Detroit for contributing to the draining of the two Great Lakes.

State lawmakers are considering various ways of tapping state funds to cover the cost of dredging recreational harbors, and Governor Snyder may include some dredging money in his budget, due to be released tomorrow.
