Deputy involved shooting leaves Barry County man dead

BALTIMORE TOWNSHIP (WKZO) -- A Barry County man is dead after what may have been a confrontation with deputies. State Police have taken over the investigation of the deputy involved shooting..

Barry County Deputies responded Saturday evening at about 7 to the 9800 block of Banfield Road on a call of a domestic dispute between a man and his wife. The suspect reportedly fired two shots before deputies arrived.

State Police Detective Chuck Christensen released few details of what followed but apparently there was some sort of police contact with 41-year-old Ralph Oliver Elliott.

During the contact, Christiensen says the suspect took some sort of "overt action", was shot and and rushed to the hospital where he later died.  The investigation remains open and a series of forensic and ballistic tests will be conducted.

One deputy has been put on paid administrative leave while the investigation is underway.
