COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Halfway through the second month of 2013, the nation is getting pinched for the highest ever gasoline prices paid during February and we’re feeling the pain at the pump in Branch County and across Southwest Michigan. Prices spiked again today around here, going up another 15-to-20 cents a gallon with many stations charging around $3.90 a gallon. Several weeks ago to begin the year, for awhile it sold on average for $3.30 to $3.40 a gallon.
What’s driving up prices this time? Most experts say it’s the result of higher wholesale prices being passed along in addition to refinery maintenance issues.
