DETROIT (WKZO) -- A Detroit man suspected of gunning down three members of his own family Friday night has checked himself into a psychiatric unit for a mental exam. Detroit Police say 24-year-old FerDarius Shine reportedly began talking about the Devil and God and made several other incoherent statements before he pulled out a gun and shot his 65-year-old grandmother, his 48-year-old aunt and his own seven-year-old daughter.
The grandmother and aunt died at the scene while the little girl is in critical condition at a Detroit hospital.
The gunman then pedaled away on a bicycle. Shine's mother said her son has mental issues and is on medication. She was in the home at the time of the shooting and was able to get him to put the gun down.
Police are also trying to figure out how a man with such a lengthy history of documented mental illness was able to obtain a concealed weapons permit.
