COOPER TOWNSHIP, MI  (WKZO) --    Icy road conditions yesterday morning are being blamed for causing a head on collision in Cooper Township just before 6 a.m. yesterday Kalamazoo County Deputies say 23-year-old David Meinema of Kalamazoo lost control of his car on D Avenue, slid across the centerline into a 60-year-old Kalamazoo man coming in the opposite direction.

Deputies are blaming speed and the icy roadway.  The 23-year old was transported to Bronson Methodist where he is listed in critical condition.

The older driver wasn’t injured.    The only other serious accident involved a semi-that jackknifed along I-94 near the intersection with U.S. 131 last evening that blocked a lane for several hours until the wreckage could be removed.  There were no injuries reported.
