LANSING (WKZO) -- A bill that would transform Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan into a nonprofit insurance company is one step closer to reality.  The package unanimously passed the House Insurance Committee Thursday.

The package of bills is similar to one vetoed last year by Governor Rick Snyder.  According to state Representative Peter Lund, the bills were amended to remove abortion language, which led to the veto.

The Senate has already passed the bills, however the full House still has to vote on them.  Blue Cross Blue Shield covers roughly 70-percent of the state's insurance market.
