LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan Republican Party has reelected Chairman Bobby Schostak to a second term, but it was a close vote.

Schostak got 52% of the vote and challenger Todd Courser got 48%. The difference was reportedly some heavy behind-the-scenes lobbying by Governor Snyder, who reportedly worked the delegates on the morning of the convention.

Courser was supported by the Freedom Caucus/Tea Party grass roots republicans who have had success at previous state conventions.

Courser refused to withdraw his nomination after his loss became inevitabgle, as has been tradition, leaving some hard feelings in the hall. He says the close result sent a message that many in the state party want strong conservative leadership.
