The Red Wings will skate into their home opener tonight with a one and one record after they scored a 4-to-3 shootout victory last night at Columbus. Swiss rookie Damien Brunner scored the lone goal of the shootout to lift Detroit over the Blue Jackets. The much needed win followed the Red Wing’s disastrous season opening 6-to-0 loss Saturday at St. Louis. Pavel Datsyuk scored for Detroit with six minutes remaining in the third period last night on an assist from Nicklas Kronwall to tie the score at three-three.
Brian Lashoff and Ian White also scored for the Red Wings while Jimmy Howard made 30 saves to pick up the win. Lashoff made his NHL debut after being called up earlier in the day from Grand Rapids to replace Jonathan Ericsson, who sat out with a shoulder injury. Dallas will face Detroit tonight with a 1-and-1 record after the Stars’ 1-to-0 loss Sunday at Minnesota. The Red Wings said Monday that right-wing Todd Bertuzzi, thought to be suffering from mononucleosis, was diagnosed with the flu and is now listed as day-to-day.
