The Red Wings dropped their home opener last night, losing 2-to-1 to the Dallas Stars. Detroit avoided a shutout when rookie Damien Brunner scored with 3.4 seconds remaining as the Red Wings fall to 1-and-2. Detroit was 0-4 with a man advantage and is now 0-for-15 on the power play for the season. Jimmy Howard had 30 saves in goal for the Red Wings, who host Minnesota Friday night. And Detroit defenseman Tomas Holmstrom made his retirement official Tuesday following a 15-year NHL playing career spent entirely with the Red Wings. Holmstrom, who turns 40 today, helped Detroit win four Stanley Cup titles.
