EMMETT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO) -- A Calhoun County man has received a big settlement for a case of police brutality, at least that was his claim. He is getting a $150-thousand settlement from Emmett Township and the City of Springfield after he claimed that Police broke into his home and roughed him up in July of 2011. Jeffrey Cary sued in Federal Court, claiming his rights had been violated. He claimed police initially came to his home to arrest his son. When he objected to the rough treatment the young man received, he claims officers forced their way into his home and assaulted him.
The settlement was agreed to as long as neither of the governmental units had to admit responsibility. No officers were ever disciplined following the incident.
