Michigan is the number one men’s team in America in the latest Associated Press poll released Monday afternoon. The 19-and-1 Wolverines moved up from number-2 following their win Sunday night at Illinois.

Michigan received 51 first place votes compared to 13 for second ranked Kansas. It’s the first time in 21 years that the Wolverines earned the number-one national ranking. Michigan freshman forward Glen Robinson the Third says the team is trying just to stay focused on one game at a time and the big ten race rather than being concerned about the rankings Michigan takes on Northwestern tomorrow night at Crisler Center and then plays at third-ranked Indiana Saturday night. Michigan State remains in thirteenth place in this week’s AP poll. In the USA Today/Coach’s poll, Kansas ended up number one this week with 16 first place votes. Michigan was second with 14 number one votes. Michigan State moved into the top ten in the Coach’s poll, up two places from last week and is now ranked ninth. The Spartans host Illinois Thursday night. Kansas, whose only loss this season was to Michigan State back on November 13^th, held on to win last night 61-56 at West Virginia.
