KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Now that a federal judge has issued an injunction blocking Michigan’s ban on same-sex benefits, the City of Kalamazoo plans to reinstate them as soon as they can.
Manager Ken Collard told City Commissioners last night that they are already working out the details.
City Commissioner Bob Cinabro says Kalamazoo was among the first cities in Michigan to offer same sex benefits. He helped draft the policy and looked up the legal precedents when he served as Kalamazoo’s City Attorney.
A Kalamazoo city employee whose partner lost her benefits when the law was enacted, was one of the plaintiffs that challenged the law.
